This is an extremely rare Irish brooch, dating to 1880/90. It is made of beautiful 9ct rose gold, and its design is inspired from ancient Celtic cloak brooches.
The brooch is complete with its original pin and clasp. It has beautiful fine engraving and is set with rare Connemara Marble.
History of Connemara Marble
This very rare marble is only found in the Irish Connemara valley. It is 600-900 million years old.
This is a very collectible, rare piece of jewellery. You will find many cloak brooches in sterling silver, but those in gold are extremely scarce.
We have never come across another gold cloak brooch with Connemara Marble!
Superb antique condition.
There are a few teeny flea bite nibbles to the marble which are barely visible to the naked eye.
WJ makers stamp.
The fastening pin is made from a non precious white metal.
Base metals were often used for pins during the Victorian and Edwardian periods. These metals were used for their strength and durability.
The brooch itself is solid gold. This has been tested to ensure it has a 9ct fineness.
