This is a beautiful vintage Russian silver bangle with a lovely pale gold finish. It has beautiful pierced detail, engraved leaves, and a very pretty flower in the centre which is decorated with Niello. Niello was invented in the Egyptian period, and is a mix of silver, lead and copper sulphides. The mix creates a beautiful dark material which is used as an inlay for deeply engraved or channeled out areas on jewellery or other metal objects. It has a beautiful metallic sheen.
The bangle has a simple keyhole fastening which secures the bangle with ease. It measures 6 & 1/2" (16.5cms) in length, and has a lovely broad 2cm width. The silver has a 0.5mm thickness and although quite thin is completely solid. The bangle is therefore a fairly weighty 16.8 grams. It has a nice snug fit on average sized wrists, and pushes on around the wrist as opposed to over the hand.
The bangle is in excellent vintage condition with some very light tarnish which is mainly on the inside. The gold overlay is non precious and has paled slightly over time. The silver is precious.
The bangle has a full Russian Soviet silver hallmark which dates it from 1958. The hallmark includes an 875 stamp which relates to the grade of silver. 875 grade has an 87.5% silver content which is slightly lower than sterling 925 (92.5%). A commonly used grade in Russia/Soviet Russia.
The bangle will be sent in a beautiful new presentation box.
